The Sustainability Yearbook 2008

The Sustainability Yearbook 2008 is the world's most insightful publication on corporate sustainability and the challenges and opportunities that companies will face in the future. Since 1999, SAM has been assessing and documenting the sustainability performance of more than 1000 companies from 57 specific sectors based on a wide range of economic, environmental and social criteria.

Only the most sustainable companies make it into the Yearbook

The 2500 largest companies in the world (as reflected in the Dow Jones Global Index) are invited each year to participate in the SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment. Only the top-scoring 15% from the 57 sectors assessed by SAM are included in the Sustainability Yearbook.

SAM distinctions for the best companies

The best company in each sector qualifies as a "SAM Sector Leader". Furthermore the best companies are broken down into three categories: SAM Gold Class, SAM Silver Class and SAM Bronze Class. In addition, those firms that have shown the greatest relative improvement in each sector are awarded the title of "SAM Sector Mover".

Yearbook with the latest research commentaries

This year's publication also presents two of SAM's latest reports on the topics of "Water - a market of the future" and "Corporate sustainability and financial performance - an overview of our empirical findings". Furthermore, in an article entitled "From niche to mainstream - sustainable solutions for product lifecycles", PricewaterhouseCoopers reveals how an increasing number of companies perceive sustainable business practices as a significant business opportunity.
